*He doesn't know what time it is. He only knows that they're still somewhere in California. That it's his shift to keep watch. And most importantly, she still hasn't woken up yet.

He's currently taking a break from toying with his sai, and picking at his newest scars to date, he sighs and looks about the room.

Yup.
It's still a crappy hotel room.*

For a second, April was rather sorry the Foot hadn't killed her. She wanted to crawl under the blankets and never come back out again.

"Who took them?" she asked, her voice dangerously even.

A strangled squeak lodged in April's throat.

"I-" She didn't know what to say. I want to die? I'm going to kill him? I feel betrayed by all of you? He can think again if he ever tries to get in my bed again? All of the above?

"Are you lying about not looking at them?" she demanded, her breath catching from the pain in her jaw.

Tears were shining in April's eyes. Oh, she felt even more terrible, were it possible. It was almost like finding out you'd been the butt of some inside joke amongst people you considered friends.

"Yes you should have," April sniffed, reaching for another tissue. "You should have said something before. I-I-" She heaved a heavy sigh that was part exasperation, part despair, her mouth settling into a pout.

I let that bastard fuck me. I trusted him. NEVER AGAIN.

"No," April pouted, turning her eyes up from the blanket to his. Abruptly and without warning, her heart turned over in her chest.

He was always there, no matter what. He meant so very much to her. He couldn't ever possibly know. It was the sort of emotion poets wrote about but still never managed to quite capture in words.

Almost timidly, she reached her hand out to him. Her knuckles were bruised, and she felt certain she must have at least one splinter in her palm, but she had to touch. Her fingertips caught against his chin and lingered there.

"You're amazing, you know that?" There was no pretense to the statement. It wasn't a line, and didn't demand a reciprocation. She just wanted him to know, even though it was likely to embarrass him.

"Look at me," April replied, but it was quiet, not demanding. The faintest of smiles quirked her mouth.

"I'm allowed to be biased. I know you, good and bad."

"I know." April hesitated, and then sucked in an abrupt breath, fighting the tightness in her chest that had nothing to do with her injuries. Her impulse was to look away as she said the next part, but she forced herself to not break their gaze. He needed to see her, really see her, as she said it. There were far too many subtleties in their communication for her to risk anything else.

"I thought I'd lost you." It sounded so simple, but was anything but.

"That's what I said, about me. Yet, here you are. Funny how that works." She arched a brow at him.

"Better." It was a lie, at least as far as her physical state was concerned. "Sorry I broke my promise. Didn't intend to. Won't break it again."

Her fingers had found their way to his chin again, somehow.

"You can't get rid of me." A subtle smirk played across her lips. "Especially not now. You're stuck with me, Mister."
